Obstetric Anaesthesia

When placing your care and trust in a doctor, I believe it is important to be informed about who will be caring for you, keeping you and your soon to be born child safe, and managing the anaesthetic with expertise. All of these elements of care require basic training in obstetric anaesthesia, however ongoing training experience, responsibility and teaching of obstetric anaesthetics is limited to those who hold a position in tertiary teaching hospitals with an obstetric unit.

When seeking reassurance about the care you will be provided by your anaesthetist, you may make an informed choice based on their experience, recognition amongst obstetricians and their commitment to teaching in dedicated obstetric units as they provide emergency obstetric care and labour analgesia.

My experience includes more than 9 years working as an anaesthetic specialist at the Royal Hospital for Women, a dedicated obstetric hospital. I have previously held also worked, both as a consultant and trainee at Liverpool Hospital with high risk obstetric care. Working predominantly as an obstetric anaesthetist. I provide care for women during labour and birth, ranging from epidural pain relief during labour to managing both emergency and elective caesarean deliveries. On average, I provide anaesthetic care for up to 15 Caesarean sections weekly, within my practice both at the Royal Hospital for Women, Prince of Wales Private Hospital, the Mater Hospital and Northshore Private. I am happy to meet with you antenatally to discuss any questions or concerns that you might have regarding anaesthetic options available to you. I look forward to caring for you and making your birth experience a safe and pleasant one.
