Dr Simon Koh is a specialist anaesthetist who holds extensive experience in providing anaesthesia and acute pain management to a range of surgical specialities. His particular sub speciality and interest is in obstetrics and gynaecology. His clinical practice also has a strong focus in orthopedics, plastics, ophthalmic surgery (adult and paediatric) and trauma management.
Dr Koh’s varied career has provided him with a wealth of experience in the field of anaesthesia and critical care, with a deep understanding of the needs of his patients. After graduating with honours in a Bachelor of Medicine from the University of NSW, he sought his junior medical training focused in critical care, based at St George Hospital, before commencing his anaesthetic specialist training at Liverpool Hospital, with rotations to St Vincent’s, Prince of Wales and Bankstown hospitals, where he became skilled in providing high level care within diverse surgical and clinical settings. During his final years of training, he pursued further interests in the areas of paediatric cardiothoracic at Sydney Childrens Hospital and obstetric and gyneacological care at the The Royal Hospital for Women, in addition to aeromedical retrieval and trauma management with Careflight.
Qualifying as a specialist from the Australian and New Zealand Colleague of Anaesthetists in 2009, Dr Koh continued his exposure as a consultant at the hospitals of Liverpool and Bankstown, the demographics maintaining a challenging role for the care of high risk obstetric cases and trauma management. A public appointment at The Royal Hospital for Women allowed for his continuing passion as an obstetric anaesthetist and a role as a dedicated educator and trainer. His private obstetric practice extends to the hospitals of Prince of Wales, Mater and Northshore Private. Further public appointments to follow at Sydney Eye Hospital extended his practice to include ophthalmic anaesthesia. He broadened his experience in trauma management within the position as an aeromedical retrieval specialist with the Air Ambulance Service of NSW and Careflight.
Dr Simon Koh is a Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (FANZCA), recognising him as an anaesthetist of the highest professional standing in Australia. He is passionate as an advocate for patient care, safety and the delivery of clinical care of the highest standard with respect, dignity and compassion.
